An interactive solo musical comedy about dating as a plus-size woman of colour
“I dare you, watch me as I undress!” — Ross Nasir
Armed with a dating app and irrepressible optimism, Ruby – a 32-year-old, self-proclaimed big brown girl from Singapore – dives back into the dating scene after a seven-year break. As she embarks on a series of encounters, based on the real-life dating experiences of plus-size women of colour, the audience are invited to help play matchmaker.
Big Brown Girl is an interactive one-woman musical comedy co-created by Singaporean actor and singer Ross Nasir and writer-director Melissa Sim of the Singapore-based theatre company How Drama.
Alone on stage, Nasir moves between dates chosen by the audience, weaving tales of Ruby’s rendezvous with original musical numbers and candid storytelling. Behind the laughs, Big Brown Girl is a warm-hearted show about searching for connection that unfolds in new ways with each performance.
